Gerald the mouse is 18 years old (in mouse years). He has green eyes, tan fur and walks like a human on 2 paws. He is the size of your average house mouse. He wears glasses that he has a hard time keeping track of. He wears a suit and tie just like Mr. Jenkins. But he can’t see well. So no matter how hard he tries to stay neat, Gerald's clothes are always rumbled
Gerald wondered into the Jenkins home when he was just a baby. He got separated from his family in The Jenkins’ garden. Having been there so long, he has made himself comfortable. He spends his days running around the house trying to fit in.
Mrs. Jenkins knows he is there and she want him out. Gerald wants to be their pet more than anything. But, Mrs. Jenkins doesn’t like that idea.
The children want to play with Gerald. Nine year old, Jennifer Jenkins even put her doll’s clothes on him. When no one is looking the children feed Gerald. But when their mother is around the children pretend they don’t want him around any more. They tell him to move.
Gerald doesn't understand that this is not really how they feel. So he goes into his mouse hole and he looks in the mirror trying to boost his self-esteem. He looks at himself and begins to love himself again.
